Not a law firm and no legal advice
This website and its technical document-review service are not a law firm or attorney service. The Legal Document Assistant is not an attorney and cannot:
- Represent you in court;
- Act as your attorney or legal representative;
- Advise you about your legal rights or the law;
- Select legal forms or documents for you;
- Recommend what claims, defenses, remedies, requests, or legal positions you should pursue;
- Tell you what facts are legally important;
- Explain the legal effect of a document or provision;
- Recommend a legal strategy or course of action; or
- Give an opinion, explanation, or recommendation concerning your legal rights, remedies, defenses, options, selection of forms, or strategy.
California law limits consumer Legal Document Assistant services to ministerial document completion at the self-represented person’s specific direction, providing qualifying published information, making published legal documents available, and filing or serving documents at the person’s specific direction.
Technical and editorial review only
The document-review service is limited to a non-substantive technical, editorial, and clerical review of documents that you selected and provided.
Depending on the services identified in the written agreement, the review may identify apparent:
- Spelling, punctuation, grammar, or typographical errors;
- Formatting, spacing, pagination, or layout problems;
- Inconsistent headings, paragraph numbers, defined terms, or internal cross-references;
- Differences in the spelling or presentation of names;
- Inconsistent dates, addresses, amounts, case numbers, exhibit labels, captions, or other information appearing in the materials you submitted; and
- Missing words or incomplete sentences that are apparent from the face of the document.
When conflicting or inconsistent information appears, the reviewer does not determine which version is factually or legally correct. You must provide or confirm the correct information and specifically approve any resulting correction.
The reviewer does not independently create, select, or change substantive legal language for a self-represented consumer. A technical correction may affect the meaning or legal effect of a document. Identifying or suggesting a spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting, or consistency correction does not mean that the correction is legally appropriate.
Technical and editorial review only
A technical review is not a legal review.
The reviewer does not determine, investigate, research, confirm, or verify:
- Whether you selected the correct document, pleading, agreement, or Judicial Council form;
- Whether a form is required, optional, current, complete, or appropriate for your circumstances;
- Whether a form is appropriate for the particular court, county, agency, jurisdiction, venue, transaction, or intended recipient;
- Whether additional forms, notices, declarations, attachments, exhibits, schedules, proofs of service, signatures, acknowledgments, or supporting documents are required;
- Whether a statute, regulation, case, court rule, local rule, ordinance, legal quotation, or citation is correct, current, controlling, or applicable;
- Whether the document accurately states the law;
- Whether a filing, service, notice, response, appeal, hearing, or other deadline has been correctly calculated or satisfied;
- Whether the proper filing, service, recording, notice, or procedural method has been selected;
- Whether the document contains every allegation, fact, claim, defense, request, disclosure, or legal provision that may be necessary;
- Whether the document is legally valid, sufficient, enforceable, effective, admissible, timely, compliant, or suitable for its intended purpose;
- Whether the document protects your interests or accomplishes your intended legal result;
- Whether the information, evidence, calculations, amounts, identities, ownership interests, authority, capacity, signatures, notarizations, or attachments are accurate or sufficient; or
- The legal, financial, tax, procedural, evidentiary, or practical consequences of signing, filing, serving, recording, delivering, or relying on the document.
Any review of a legal citation is limited to visible typographical or formatting consistency. The reviewer does not verify the existence, accuracy, current status, interpretation, or applicability of the cited authority.
A document may be free of spelling and grammar errors and still be legally incorrect, incomplete, ineffective, untimely, or unsuitable for its intended purpose.
No approval or certification
Completion of a technical review does not constitute:
- Approval or certification of the document;
- Confirmation that the correct form has been selected;
- Confirmation that the correct law has been used;
- A representation that the document is legally sufficient or ready to sign, serve, file, or record;
- A legal opinion about any provision, procedure, deadline, claim, defense, or anticipated result; or
- A recommendation that you use the document.
The absence of a comment, correction, or warning does not mean that the document, form, legal authority, procedure, or proposed action has been approved.
Your responsibilities
You remain solely responsible for:
- Selecting every document and form submitted for review;
- Determining the information and language to include;
- Providing complete, accurate, and truthful facts and instructions;
- Deciding which version of inconsistent information is correct;
- Making every substantive and legal decision;
- Verifying all laws, forms, citations, court rules, local requirements, instructions, filing requirements, service requirements, and deadlines;
- Reviewing and approving every proposed correction;
- Reviewing the complete final document before using it; and
- Deciding whether, when, where, and how to sign, file, serve, record, deliver, or rely on the document.
You should not sign, serve, file, record, deliver, or rely on a document merely because it received a technical review.
Services provided only to attorneys
Any legal research, legal writing, legal analysis, case management, witness interviewing, motion support, pleading support, discovery support, or other substantive litigation-support service described elsewhere on this website is provided only to licensed attorneys or pursuant to attorney direction and supervision.
Those services are not offered to self-represented consumers as part of the technical document-review or Legal Document Assistant service. The website distinguishes consumer LDA work performed at the consumer’s direction from substantive paralegal and litigation-support work performed for attorneys.

Using this website, submitting an intake form, uploading a document, communicating with a Legal Document Assistant, purchasing a technical review, or receiving a reviewed document does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Communications and documents are not protected by attorney-client privilege merely because they concern a legal matter or were provided to a Legal Document Assistant.
